What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy uses natural plant extracts, known as essential oils, to help improve mood, health and well-being. The scent from the oil enters your nose and travels to the limbic System, a part of your brain that deals with memories and emotions. Using essential oils in a vaporiser or on pulse points can help to shift your focus into a more positive frame of mind. Used in massage on the skin, the oils can have a more powerful effect. The oils should never be used neat on the skin and should be used in the right quantity in a carrier oil to avoid irritation.

What happens in an Aromatherapy Massage Treatment?
Some massage can be added to a Reiki treatment to aid relaxation further and to target problem areas. Adding a scalp and/or hand massage for example, is often a good addition as the client can remain fully clothed.

Massage with Aromatherapy requires a thorough consultation to determine the best treatment to be tailor made for you. A patch test with certain oils may be required at least 24 hours before treatment. Once you have decided on your chosen areas to be massaged, the practitioner will explain about the massage sequence, oils to be used and if any clothing is to be removed. Privacy will be given whilst you prepare for this and towels will be provided.

The treatment time will vary dependent on number of areas massaged. Reiki can be added into the treatment to completely relax and balance your mind and body.
Once complete, any aftercare or treatment plans will be discussed.

Is Aromatherapy massage suitable for me?
During your consultation, the practitioner will discuss your general health and any medical issues which may possibly restrict treatment. This is to ensure that the treatment is not only tailor made for you, but that it doesn't aggravate any of your health conditions. For some on-going medical issues, you may need consent from your GP before aromatherapy and/or massage can be used. This is because some massage manoeuvres and essential oils can work quite deeply on stimulating or relaxing certain systems in your body. A patch test before treatment will also be required for aromatherapy oils to be used on
the skin.
*Please be aware that if you have had the Covid-19 vaccination and/ or had Covid-19, your skin may show a little sensitivity to an oil which has previously been ok for you. This will be discussed and precautions taken at your appointment *
